Artist Statement

My paintings often take on a life of their own that direct their evolution. The paintings pose design or aesthetic
questions that I answer. Usually, a personal narrative develops, though it is abstracted for the viewer. I aim to
build the tension and dynamism of my compositions through the use of warm, earthy colors and quirky, organic
shapes. The paintings are a way for me to explore the formal aspects of my work and internal questions of my
unique experience as a human being. The goals of my paintings include the recognition of this narrative along
with the intentional building up of tension within the composition and resolution of posed questions of the
painting’s formal and aesthetic qualities.  The process of creating art and the discovery that goes hand in hand
with it are my passion.
